Clothings | Guerilla Games: Horizon Zero Dawn

Virtuos had the opportunity to work on Horizon Zero Dawn, a PS4 game developed by Guerrilla Games. Our character team produced four characters and ten sets of costumes including costume variants for Aloy. ZBrush and Marvelous Designer were used to get high-quality results for high ploy models, we used Xnomal and PS to create texture maps and Maya to make the in-game character models.

Being accurate on negative space improves cloth's realism.

We used Marvelous Designer to create these realistic simulated pants. We looked for the right balance between a straight cut and the clothes' natural wrinkles.

The challenge: imbrication between the more rigid armor and the softer clothing. The armor had to be aesthetically pleasing while looking realistic. The pieces need to interlock at various positions for varied situations and not restrain combat movements.

The polycount of low-res models in Horizon is very high. The level of details is comparable to what you can find in theatrical CG movies.
